Our Guide to the Best Las Vegas Strip Hotels
Las Vegas Strip hotels are the stuff of legends, from the opulence of Wynn Encore to the funky medieval realm of Excalibur. There is literally something for everyone on the Strip, and its sidewalk scene is absolutely fascinating.
The Strip never really shuts down, but things are certainly more interesting and visually stimulating after dark. The hotel and casino lights alone make this street a world-class destination, and evening entertainment ranges from celebrity performances to roller coaster rides. Many of the attractions here are free, which helps visitors stretch their budget as much as necessary.
All of Sin City’s top hotel resorts are found on the Strip, which is divided into three sections. The central section is where most of the action is concentrated, anchored by the glittering new City Center development that is surrounded by other star attractions like the Bellagio, Caesar’s, New York New York and the Flamingo.
At the northern end of the Strip, the ultra luxurious Wynn Las Vegas and Wynn Encore hold court. The hugely popular Venetian and Treasure Island are also nearby for more affordable entertainment, and at the far northern end is the family favourite Circus Circus, offering some of the cheapest lodging on the Strip.
The southern section is home to another clutch of well-known hotels Las Vegas strip. The Tropicana, the Luxor, Mandalay Bay and MGM Grand are all within spitting distance of each other, creating a little world of their own for visitors with a little extra cash to blow. Most people stay between the southern and central parts, where 80 per cent of the hotels on the Strip are located.
While you certainly don’t need a car to enjoy the Strip, it’s a longer street than most people realise. Trying to walk from one end to the other can take a couple of hours, a major obstacle for the elderly or parents with children in tow. Transportation is pretty good, however, with public buses running up and down at frequent intervals and a couple of free casino shuttles that move between their sister properties. City Center even has a brand new monorail that connects three resorts.
Every hotel on the Strip has at least one attraction worth checking out, and many highlights are free. The Bellagio has its wonderful choreographed water fountains out front and a magical Conservatory garden inside. Mirage and its evening volcano eruptions is a mainstay of the Strip, while Rio’s Show in the Sky is a great piece of free entertainment. Clowns and acrobats perform at Circus Circus and the Mirage even has dolphins.
For a few bucks, the roller coaster at New York New York is a blast. Then there is the wealth of famous performers headlining every casino theatre in town, from comedies to concerts. Splashing out for a Cirque du Soleil performance is worth every penny, or save your money for shopping at the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian, where a gondola can float you through this magical casino.
